People’s Democratic Party Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Wing, Engr. Akeem Olatunji has sounded the alarm over the vandalism of political campaign billboards of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by suspected APC apologists in the state.
The most recent example of such vandalism, according to the PDP spokesperson in Oyo State, occurred near the Muslim High School in the Muslim neighborhood of Oluyole, Ibadan, in the early hours of morning.
Olatunji confirmed the claim to reporters early Saturday morning (today), saying some residents saw the opposition party members but were unable to arrest them out of concern for their safety from vandals of the APC.
Olatunji added that the vandalism of the Muslim Grammar School notice board which he personally erected there among four others was the latest of such illegal actions.
He reaffirmed the party’s concerns about what he called apologists for Senator Teslim Folarin and the APC in the state’s unbridled desperation.
Olatunji urged the Department of State Security Services and Police Commissioner, CP Adebowale Williams, to step in and bring Folarin and his political allies to order before the situation escalates.
According to Olatunji, “it should be recalled that we have repeatedly drawn the attention of the police and the DSS to certain statements and conduct of Senator Folarin and the APC in Oyo State in order to avoid disturbing public peace as political campaigns begin.
There have been several acts of vandalism recorded on our party’s billboards in different places and at different times, but we have decided to handle matters internally and more peacefully, but it seems that they confuse our civil disposition and peaceful with cowardice.
“We know that APC is a corps of desperate politicians’ lie-spreaders with a sole mandate to tell lies, more lies and so many more lies to force wrongdoing and false propaganda down the throats of unsuspecting members of the public.
“We also know very well Teslim Folarin and what he is capable of doing as long as his political interest in becoming governor at all costs and by all means is at stake, which is why we are issuing this alert again so that all the authorities concerned shall act accordingly.” .
“It is evident that Seyi Makinde’s unparalleled success and achievements in less than four years in all sectors has become a nightmare for these political desperadoes in their bid to gain access to the government house of Agodi.
“We want to make it very clear that the APC in Oyo State is not the only opposition party and as such does not have a monopoly on violence. he thought he could get away with pure political robbery during this election campaign.
“We at the PDP are not only peaceful and law-abiding, but also seen and known to the general public as such, especially when engaging in our political activities. Our civility and peaceful disposition to politics should therefore not be mistaken for weakness or cowardice by Folarin or his APC apologists.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the vandalism of our party’s notice board at the Muslim Grammar School, among others, and warn Folarin apologists as well as ill-trained political neophytes in the APC’s state section of s ‘immediately refrain from any act of attack on our party’s political structures.’” Olatunji said.
